Brendan Behan, 1923-1964, lärmender Rauf- und Trunkenbold, Bohemien, Journalist, IRA-Aktivist und Dramatiker von Weltruhm. Als er 1964 starb, war Behan gerade mal 41 Jahre alt, doch längst als enfant terrible in die irische Literatur eingegangen. Nach seiner Haftstrafe in Borstal stand er später noch zwei Mal wegen versuchten Mordes und Fluchthilfe vor Gericht. 1952 wurde er des Landes verwiesen. In Frankreich findet Behan schließlich unter den Augen Samuel Becketts die Zeit zum Schreiben. Mit seinen Theaterstücken "Die Geisel", "Richards Korkbein" und "Der Mann von morgen früh" gelang ihm der internationale Durchbruch. In Deutschland wurde er von Peter Zadek inszeniert und seither immer wieder aufgeführt.
