Portrait
Wislawa Szymborska, -die Erste unter den Lyrikerinnen Polens- (Julian Przybos), studierte in Krakau, wo sie auch heute lebt, polnische Philologie und Soziologie. 1952 erschien ihr erster Gedichtband. Sie ist Preisträgerin der Stadt Krakau (1955). 1991 erhielt sie den Goethepreis der Stadt Frankfurt am Main, 1995 den Herder-Preis. 1996 wurde sie mit dem Nobelpreis für Literatur ausgezeichnet - für eine Poesie, die mit ironischer Präzision den historischen und biologischen Zusammenhang in Fragmenten menschlicher Wirklichkeit hervortreten läßt.
