Robert Harris wird 1957 in Nottingham geboren. Nach seinem Geschichtsstudium in Cambridge war er als BBC-Reporter und politischer Redakteur des Observer tätig. Die historischen Hintergründe seiner Romane recherchiert Harris als Historiker exakt. Trotzdem schreibt er keine Sachbücher: er will die Leser gleichzeitig unterhalten und informieren. Mit "Vaterland" gelangt er 1992 in die internationalen Bestsellerlisten. Robert Harris ist heute ständiger Kolumnist bei der Times. Er lebt mit seiner Frau und zwei Kindern in einem alten Pfarrhaus in Kintbury bei London.
