Bernice Rubens wurde 1928 als Tochter russischer Einwanderer im walisischen Cardiff geboren und studierte Anglistik an der Universität von Wales.§Seit 1961 hat sie einundzwanzig Romane veröffentlicht. Sie bekam für ihren Roman 'Es geschah in einer Seitenstraße' den renommierten Booker-Preis. 2004 verstarb Bernice Rubens in England.
